During an exclusive VentureBeat session, Cato Networks' security executive Etay Maor performed an active internet scan, identifying close to 500,000 publicly accessible OpenClaw installations—a significant increase from 230,000 the prior week. Cato's investigation team documented a February 2026 security forum advertisement where a malicious actor marketed complete access to a UK executive's computer for cryptocurrency. The vulnerability stemmed from the executive's OpenClaw digital assistant, which stored corporate databases, messaging tokens, and financial access codes in unencrypted format. Maor informed VentureBeat that the compromised AI essentially became an attacker's tool.
